AI Commit Message Generator

What it does

Turns a raw git diff into a clean conventional commit message — subject line and short body — using an LLM (Groq’s Llama models). You paste the diff, pick the commit type (feat / fix / docs / refactor / chore), and get a message that follows the type: imperative summary contract, max 72 characters, lowercase after the type.

This is an AI Studio tool: it calls the model directly from your browser with your own free Groq API key. Nothing passes through CosmoDev servers, and we store nothing.

How to use

1. Save your free Groq API key once — the key panel on this page keeps it in this browser’s localStorage. Get a key at console.groq.com/keys.
2. Copy a diff: git diff (staged changes: git diff --cached).
3. Paste it, pick the commit type, press Generate commit message.
4. Copy the result straight into git commit or your editor.

Large diffs are truncated to the first 8000 characters, with the file/addition/deletion counts sent alongside so the model still knows the shape of the change.

Good to know

• Key custody: your key lives only in this browser (localStorage, namespaced cosmodev:aistudio.groq) and is sent only to api.groq.com as a request header — never to CosmoDev, never in a URL. The key panel has a Remove key button that wipes it.
• Free tier: Groq’s free tier makes this genuinely free — the landing page at /ai-studio lists every BYO-key tool and shows your key status.
• Rate limits: if Groq rate-limits the call (HTTP 429), the tool stops and shows the error with a manual Retry button — it never retries automatically.
• Bad replies: if the model’s answer isn’t a plausible commit message, the tool says so instead of guessing — press Generate again.
• Wrong key: a rejected key surfaces as “The API key was rejected — check it and re-save.”
